Dear you,

This is for you. Yes, for you.

December, Christmas, and the end of the year are a unique time of year—a time when the world seems to move differently, and especially, when your world can feel a little different too.

Moving from the doing that usually fills our lives to simply being, you find yourself with your family, your friends, your partner, or whoever you feel connected to. You don’t have to be anyone in particular. Just enjoy their presence, and your presence with them.

Feel.

This is a time for connection and disconnection…

Miss the people who used to share this time of year with you but are no longer here. And love those who hold you today, or who will hold you tomorrow.

Feel the discomfort of being in a different personal space. Feel the warmth and affection that inhabiting another place can bring you.

Feel.

Remember that every emotion and sensation is a messenger—of your relationships, your affections, and the bonds you weave with people, places, and experiences.

Emotion is not your enemy. It is one of your greatest allies.

But remember: feeling does not mean acting in a way that harms you or someone else. Feeling is different from taking action.

Feel, but think carefully about what you will do with the messenger and the message it brings.

Connect. Feel. Enjoy.

And yet, a year comes to an end, but that doesn’t mean your story does.

Let the year come to a close without too many expectations or too many disappointments.

Love yourself while remaining aware of the path you have walked and of the horizon that is beginning to take shape ahead of you.

With affection,

Juan Esteban
